These are made from calabash (gourd) material- of the pumpkin family but the plant thereof does not rot like that of the pumpkin. Green when ripe and then turn to a beautiful array of shades of yellow when dry. In the dry state these are treated so that they do not break.

Out of that nature of your natural exterior you have a robust interior to make one of the most durable bags.

To the casing of the treated fruit, leather is added to make the most beautiful of bags, made out of natural materials that at some stage could be used to drink water, or an eating utensil (plate) or to store grain in other instances.

Cala Bags - materials of a people of the day before yesterday, for a people of the day after tomorrow.

Crafted by the creator/teacher himself – award winning composer and musician Tlokwe Sehume.
